SO I was at work last night..

There’s this guy who comes in, and he’s a bit of a character. I work for a supermarket petrol station and you can get a points card for saving yourself money etc. I’m sure you’re all familiar with the concept. Part of our job is to ask for this points card from customers. Standard, correct? WIth that said, there are some people you do not want to ask about a points card. This guy is one of them. But when you’re working you’re just on autopilot, the question just comes out… Every time I ask him, the first words out of his mouth are “Noo I don’t bother with those thank you, they can track you all over the world using them you know!” The fact that he’s paying with his debit/credit card, with his name on, fully traceable by the bank.. has obviously escaped his attention… By the time he’s said “I don’t bother with them” it’s all come flooding back to me and I’ve remembered fully who he is and I’ve remembered that I shouldn’t have fucking asked him. Every time, he says to whoever else is in the shop “It’s true! It’s true.” With some other addition. Last night’s addition was “Thats how they caught Gary Glitter.” Just for the record, they did not catch Gary Glitter with a supermarket points card. This guy also leaves the shop saying “Happy New Year” without fail, every time. I thought it bizarre in February. A little late for wishing people a happy new year… but just about acceptable I suppose.. We’re now half way through May. He will still be saying it in December.

Armor of George Clifford, Third Earl of Cumberland - c. 1585
“George Clifford (1558–1605) was appointed Queen’s Champion in 1590 and was made a Knight of the Garter two years later. He is best remembered for his capture of the Spanish fort in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in 1598. A favorite of Queen Elizabeth I (r. 1558–1603), he chose for the decoration of this armor the Tudor rose, the French fleur-de-lis (then part of the English arms), and the cipher of Elizabeth, two E’s back to back.”
